Learn AI-assisted coding from YouTube in 7 days
AI coding tools can write a lot of code, and that is exactly the risk: you can end up with a project you do not understand. This week teaches you to work with them rather than hand over the keyboard. You start in an AI-first editor, try a terminal agent, set rules so the assistant follows your conventions, learn the power features of a command-line agent, and then meet an assistant inside a familiar editor, including custom agents. You finish with a small project you could explain line by line.
Day 1 free. No credit card.
What you’ll have at the end
- A small project built with an AI assistant that you understand.
- A rules file that tells the assistant how you want code written.
- A short note on which tool suited which kind of task.

Day 1 — How do you use Cursor as a beginner?
A full beginner tutorial for Cursor, which is longer than twenty minutes, so follow it in sections. Install it, open an empty folder, ask it to build a very small page or script, and read every line it wrote. Write one sentence about what each part does.

Day 2 — What does Claude Code add?
Claude Code works in the terminal, on a new or an existing project. Follow the install and a first task, and compare how it differs from yesterday's editor. A free trial or an account may be needed, so check before you start.

Day 3 — How do rules shape the output?
Rules tell the assistant how your project works. Write a short rules file for yesterday's project, such as language, style and what to avoid, and ask for the same small change with and without the rules to see the difference.

Day 6 — What are custom agents?
Custom agents give an assistant a role and instructions. Write one for a task you repeat, such as reviewing a function, and try it on a small piece of your own code.

FAQ
Do I need to know how to code?
Some basics help. The week is easier if you can read a simple script, and the daily tasks ask you to read what the tool wrote rather than trust it.
Do I have to pay for these tools?
Some of the tools have free tiers or trials, and some features need a paid plan. Check your plan on Days 1, 2 and 5, and use the free option where one exists.
Which tool should I pick?
The week lets you try three and decide. Many people end up using one as their main tool and keeping another for specific jobs.
Is it safe to let an AI change my code?
Use a copy of your project and version control, read every change, and run it before you keep it. The Day 7 task is built around reviewing the changes.
What do I submit as proof?
The project itself or a screenshot, plus the short note you write each day about what the assistant did.
