Guide
A playlist is not a path
You save “CapCut for beginners”. Twenty-two videos. Eleven hours. You watch two. Next week the list is still there. That is a playlist.
A path is the opposite. Seven days. One video. One challenge. One file. Day 2 stays locked until the file exists.
Playlist
- Related, not sequenced
- Autoplay picks the next one
- No end file
- Length unknown until you add it up
Path
- Ordered for an outcome
- You pick the next day
- Proof required
- Friday has a name: the cut, the post, the titles
What a playlist is good for
A pile of options. You already know the outcome (“one 15s cut Friday”) and you are choosing a single title. Then you close YouTube.
It is a shelf. It is not the week.
Where it breaks
You treat the list as the plan. You start at video 1 because it is first, not because it produces the file. You skip the 2022 colour grade, then feel behind. Autoplay puts a 40-minute “complete course” after an 8-minute hook lesson. Nothing ships.
Side by side
| Playlist | Path | |
|---|---|---|
| Unit | Video | Day |
| Next | Autoplay | Unlocked by proof |
| Done | Watched | File exists |
| Count | 22, 40, 80 | 3, 7 or 14 |
| End | None | Named on day 1 |
Do this tonight
Write the outcome in one line. Not “learn CapCut”. “Export one 15s cut.”
Keep seven titles max. The other fifteen stay in the pile.
Day 1 is one video plus the file. If there is no file, you did not start the path. You started the playlist again.
Common mistake
Pasting the playlist URL into Slack and calling it training. That is twelve links. That is not an assigned week. One path, one deadline, one report: started / stuck / shipped.
